Cuban Missile Crisis (16 oct 1962 año – 28 oct 1962 año)
Descripción:
The Soviet Union put missiles in Cuba and was shipping them to have them positioned towards the US. This was to neutralize the threat of US missiles in Turkey and Italy. A US spy plane saw them and an emergency meeting was held on October 16, 1962. President Kennedy’s advisors urged an invasion of Cuba, but Kennedy chose to blockade Cuba. This led to a 6-day standoff. On October 27, a US spy plane was shot down and a USSR submarine was hit. The sub was about to launch a nuclear torpedo because they assumed war had already started, but instead one commander nixed the idea. In the midst, Attorney General Robert Kennedy and Soviet ambassador Anatoly Dobrynin agreed to pull US missiles out of Turkey and Italy and promise to not invade Cuba, and the USSR agreed to take their missiles out of Cuba.
