The 60's were a time in which people became more free, and ignored previous values set in generations before them. These people, typically young folks, were political Activists and pushed the civil rights movement and anti-war protests. Forrest accidentally stumbles upon a protest on his way around the White House, and ends up on stage at an anti-war protest.
