Following Emmett Till's death and Rosa Parks' refusal to give up her seat on a bus to a white man, blacks across Montgomery, Alabama boycotted the Montgomery bus system until racial segregation on the bus ended. Black people being the system's primary source of income, they were forced to acquiesce to their demands in a little over a year. It markes the start of the civil rights movement.
