After getting involved in WWI, the U.S. was determined to stay out of more conflicts, so it adopted a policy of isolationism and neutrality, passing several Neutrality Acts to ensure that the U.S. would stay out of European wars. As a result, the U.S. remained neutral towards the Spanish Civil War, and fascist dictator Francisco Franco successfully took control of Spain.
