1942-1964: Bracero Program - This program allowed Mexican workers to come to the US on short-term contracts in exchange for tighter immigration laws overall. It benefited the US by supplementing its labor force during wartime and benefited Mexico by allowing workers to be trained in the US before returning to Mexico.
