Telmarin tried to carefully strengthen royal power over Tarvens and Obellons, which eventually lead to their rebellion.

After Telmarin's death the reckless Martin III reformed the army into a mercenary force. Increasingly isolated the Riverlands nobility was defeated in a war of attrition. They expected the Oceanic powers to join on opposing sides, but unprecedentedly. they agreed to ally on Martin's side, delivering tthe deathblow. Martin III awarded them the green light for colonial expansion. After the war Martin III declared the "true restoration of the Imperium". The weakened nobility was shakled, the senate pushed aside. This decesion lead to a series of secondary revolts in the Riverlands from House Manare, Dissis, Craal, and Laurien, and Osyndrel Lhandorne.

In the end Martin III policies would weaken the Imperium and open the door for the Colonial Era
