Although initially elected president, Napoleon made himself emperor in 1852 after his term ended. During his reign, he achieved numerous accomplishments such as the building of the Suez Canal, the expansion of French territories and colonies, and the revitalization of the French economy. His reign came to an end with the Franco-Prussian war, which he initiated in an attempt to halt German unification. Ultimately France lost, and Napoleon III lived out the rest of his days in exile.Añadido al timeline:
