Mexican-American War (25 abr 1846 año – 3 feb 1848 año)
Descripción:
Marked the first U.S. armed conflict chiefly fought on foreign soil. Begain with Texas gaining its independence from Mexico in 1836. Initially, the United States declined to incorporate it into the union (mostly due to the unwanted addition of a new slave state). Nonetheless, annexation procedures were quickly initiated and troops were put into a disputed zone between the Rio Grande and Nueces River that both countries wanted. The war ended in U.S. victory thus establishing the Rio Grande as the new U.S.-Mexican border and the recognition from Mexico of the U.S. annexation of Texas. Mexico was also forced to sell California and the rest of its territory north of the Rio Grande for $15 million plus the assumption of certain damages claims to the U.S.
