Christopher Columbus set sail west of Spain to try to find an alternate route to India. He (miraculously) found the Bahamas, located in Central America. The discovery of this new continent would lead to an era of exploration and expansion, and in this continent is where the strongest country in the world, the United States of America, would be created.
