By 1945 the war was getting very bad. Hundreds of people were dying every day. In 1936 and 1937 the Japanese army entered Nanking and over six weeks horrific events were committed. The Rape of Nanking cause the US begin working on atomic bombs that they were going to use on enemies. The goal of the bombs were to end the war. The decision to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were very controversial, but the US felt that they needed to end the war. The bombs caused Japan to surrender and the war ended.
