Immunity 1880-1883 (1 ene 1880 año – 31 dic 1883 año)
Descripción:
The Russian zoologist Élie Metchnikoff first used the term phagocyte in order to recognize the cells with immune qualities, which means that these cells can engulf and destroy foreign units such as bacteria. In 1883 Metchnikoff published a paper on phagocytic cells in frogs, describing the behavior of such cells and their function to protect the organism from foreign units as well as the disposal of dying or non-functional cells within the organism. Additionally, he describes the morphological changes an organism may undergo due to the immune response involving the cells, such as inflammation.
