Presidency of Vicente Fox (18 feb 2000 año – 24 sept 2006 año)

Descripción:

Vicente Fox was a candidate from PAN and a right wing populist whose election marked the end of the PRI’s domination of Mexican politics. His election marked a shift right for the federal government and greater support of the Catholic church as well as strong relationship with the US. While he was able to avoid economic catastrophe and successfully managed to keep inflation low, growth was slow. However, Fox was not able to fulfill his campaign promises--corruption and crime rates were both high, he was perceived as a lame duck and his presidency was defined by conflict with the PRD party, specifically, Andres M. L. Obrador. Even as he stepped down in 2006, his succession was marred by the controversy over whether or not the results were rigged against AMLO.
