Marco Polo (1254-1324) was an Italian voyager and merchant from Venice, Italy. Marco was one of the first Europeans/explorers to travel to Beijing across Asia, and to travel to the lands above and around Beijing. He left in 1271 with his father Nicolo Polo and his uncle Maffeo Polo. This family group spent about 24 years traveling around the world to places most Europeans had never been. They traveled all the way from Venice to the lands around Sri Lanka, Bejing, and traveled on land to places like the black and red seas.
