Theodore Roosevelt, Teddy for short, became the 26th President of the United States on September 14th 1901. He became president after William McKinley was assassinated. In 1904, he won his second term by himself. He won a Nobel Peace Prize for his negotiations to end the Russo-Japanese War. He also started the construction of the Panama Canal.
