The French and Indian War was fought between France and Great Britain on North American soil. Land was the premise of the war—both nations wanted control of the Ohio River in order to facilitate trade between Europe and the Americas. The French employed Native American forces to help defeat British ranks, but ultimately they lost the war and ceded Louisiana to Spain in compensation.
