The English Civil War was a series of two smaller wars that pitted parliamentary forces against loyalist forces. The war began with Charles I abusing his royal power and dismissing his parliament, only calling it back into session when he needed tax money. While the monarchy was restored shortly after the rule of Oliver Cromwell, this war certanly set the stage for the Glorius Revolution.
