Cavour and Emmanuel make a secret alliance with Napoleon III to help kick out the Austrians from Lombardy and Venetia -- promises to give France Savoy and Nice

Cavour goads Austria into attacking

HOWEVER Nap III is afraid of political backlash from French conservatives for supporting Cavour SO he signs a treaty with the Austrians
- Sardinia only recieved Lombardy (Venetia still Austria's)
- Cavour retired in disgust (comes back eventually)
