700 of 1300 sanitation workers agree to go on strike after the deaths of two sanitation workers in trash compactor malfunction. The 700 workers were protesting the starvation wages and unsafe conditions that they had been subjected to for years in their position as Sanitation workers. MLK became involved in the strike from March 18th till his assassination on April 4th, 1968
