Robespierre's Reign of Terror (5 sept 1793 año – 26 jul 1794 año)
Descripción:
In the summer of 1793, France was in the midst of a civil war between revolution and counter-revolution. Rather than having street violence, Robespierre and the newly formed Committee of Public Safety decided to have state-sponsored acts of violence. Some 300,000 suspected traitors and "enemies of the nation" were arrested, 40,000 of whom died either by execution or imprisonment. The Cult of the Supreme Being was also established as part of an attempted dechristianization of France. It ended with Robespierre's trial and execution.
