Inaugurated into office on March 4, 1933, Roosevelt became president during the Great Depression, who many blame president Hoover for. His first act was to close all banks for several days, which was to give Congress time to pass reform. Throughout his presidency, his main goal was to help those who lost their money, he made several programs and institutions that would help workers and farmers and would provide jobs for the unemployed. He also made several acts that would help prevent the type of stock market crash thatvled to the Great Depression. He increased taxes on the rich and made Social Security. He was re-elected and died on April 12, 1945, ending his presidency.
