Louis XIV or "The Sun King" was his parent's 1st child and inherited the crown of France when he was 8. He was a very power hungry ruler and was one of the most powerful rulers of his time. He created the palace of Versailles, which had over 600 rooms. He hated Protestantism and employed the nobles of that religion to work for him at the palace. Versailles cost France 1 billion dollars and left France in extreme debt. This caused a decline in wealth due to the upkeep of the palace.
