Crittenden Compromise (1 ene 1861 año – 31 dic 1861 año)
Descripción:
The Crittenden Compromise was a last minute effort to preserve the Union by Senator John Crittenden. Crittenden proposed that all territory below the 36° 30' line be proportioned for slave states. Lincoln rejected the compromise because it went against his values of stopping the expansion of slavery.
The Crittenden Compromise is significant because it was the last effort made by anyone to stop the secession of southern states and to preserve the Union. The failure of this compromise contributed to the start of the Civil War because there was no point of return for the North or the South.
