Mexican-American War (25 abr 1846 año – 3 feb 1848 año)

Descripción:

In 1845, the United States took Texas into the Union and wanted to take the Mexican
territories of New Mexico and California. U.S. annexation of Texas and other factors
led to war in 1846. When the United States won the war, this region was ceded to the
United States as a part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The Wilmot Proviso was written during the war and Congress debated whether slavery would be allowed in New Mexico and California if these territories were acquired from Mexico. The House of Representatives could not approve it, and the issue of whether to allow or prohibit slavery in new states remained unresolved.
