A conflict between the US and a Native American confederacy led by the Shawnee leader Tecumseh. It started with the negotiation of the Treaty of Fort Wayne, conducted between William Henry Harrison and several Native American tribes. They eventually agreed to sell Native American land in Indiana Territory in exchange for money. Tecumseh, not present at the treaty, was outraged and insisted the treaty was illegitimate. In August 1810, Tecumseh and 400 warriors marched to meet with Harrison, insisting they not sell the land. Harrison told him the tribes could sell their own land if they wished. Tecumseh proceeded to gather support for his confederacy. The war climaxed with the Battle of Tippecanoe, a resounding defeat for Tecumseh's confederacy. Later, he allied with the British in the War of 1812, fighting to defend Canada to secure Native American rights until his death at the Battle of the Thames in 1813.
