(October 14, 1890 – March 28, 1969)
First Republican elected President since 1928. His main goals while in office were to contain the Soviet Union while reducing federal deficits.

The Korean War ended when he threatened China with the use of nuclear weapons in 1953.
His New Look policiy reduced funding for expensive Army divisions and rather prioritized inexpensive nuclear weapons. Continued to recognize the Republic of China as China.

The Formosa Resolution of January 1953 gave the President power to use military force at the defense of Taiwan signaling to Beijing a commitment to the status quo.
