The years between 1968 and the present have been marked by divided government, meaning one party may have control of the presidency while another is in control of congress. Nevertheless, the Republican Party has been the dominant party of this era, winning 8 of the 12 (change this in your notes!!) presidential elections that have taken place, most recently with President Donald Trump in 2016. The Democrats, despite taking power from the Republicans on and off, remain the weaker party of the era. Some of the defining issues that have arisen throughout this era include:

2) Civil Rights
3) Social Issues
4) Poor Economy
5) End of Cold War/Start of Gulf War
6) War on Terror
7) 2008 Recession
