Great Depression (Return of the Democrats) (1 ene 1932 año – 1 ene 1968 año)
Descripción:
Between 1932-1968, Democrats firmly retook control of government and managed to win 7 of the 9 elections during this time period. With the onset of the Great Depression, FDR's election and decision to get government more heavily involved in the public's economic & social well being helped Democrats to maintain a coalition of southerners, small farmers, organized labor, big-city political organizations, & later African-Americans. The Republicans were the weaker party of the time, only winning the presidential elections of 1952 & 1956. The major issues debated on by the two parties at the time included:
1) The Economy
2) The Role of government in social & economic life
3) isolationism vs. intervention in foreign wars
