Civil War (Era of the Republicans) (2 ene 1860 año – 1 ene 1932 año)
Descripción:
By 1860, with both the Democrats and Whigs in disarray, the new Republican Party (a coalition of former Whigs and anti-slavery Democrats) emerged as the dominant party of the time period between 1860-1932. The Republicans managed to win 14 of the 18 presidential elections that took place during this time. The Democrats, the weaker party during this era, was only able to stay afloat because of the influence they had in the South both during and after the Civil War. The major issues of the day included:
1) Slavery & the Civil War
2) Sectionalism: emphasis on & devotion to the interests of a particular region
3) small business/farmers/unions vs. big business/monopolies/railroads
