Maccabees rebellion (22 dic 166 año aC – 13 mayo 160 año aC)

Descripción:

After the death of Alexander the Great, his land was separated into four. Jews were under the rule of Ptolemy I, who treated them nicely and allowed them to practice their religion. However, this peaceful state was shattered as the Seleucid Empire defeated Ptolemy. The leader of the Empire, Antiochus III, tried to Hellenize the whole Jewish community. Many Jews were converted due to the benefits that it provided. Eventually, Jews rebelled under the lead of Mattathias and his five sons. Even though Jews were greatly outnumbered, they still managed to defeat Ptolemy's army. They went so far that they even drove Ptolemy's army out of Jerusalem. This is another critical point of Jewish History; if Jews didn't rebel, Judaism might have eventually faded away (History; Harry Oates).
