Abraham (originally called Abram) is the ninth generation of Shem's descendants. He made a covenant with God, in which he moved to Canaan, the land that God promised him, with his family. He then had two son, Ishmael and Issac. Abraham then tried to sacrifice Issac under God's command, as a test of his faith; However, God stopped the sacrifice before the it could occurred. Abraham is an extremely important character in not just the Jewish religion, but also in Christianity and Islam. He is regarded as the father of Jews. Christians trace their roots back to him, as well as Islam, in which they believe one of Abraham's sons, Ishmael, is the ancestor of Muhammad (Tanakh; History).
