McCarthy Era (1 ene 1950 año – 1 jun 1954 año)
Descripción:
A period of accusations and paranoia, remembered as the second red scare, set off by U.S. senator Joseph McCarthy, who claimed to know of 205 alleged members of the Communist Party who worked for the U.S. dept. of State. This campaign largely targeted government officials, entertainers, teachers, and democrats, leading to many to be blacklisted and lose their jobs, and hysteria that gave way to more baseless accusations. The fear of being accused and persecuted against combined with the heightened sense of hysteria and suspicion among the public, further aggravated by rampant anti-communist propaganda, created a sense of distrust towards one’s peers throughout society.
