Centered in the middle/lower Yellow River Valley, the Shang were the first real powerhouse dynasty to hit China. They had a complex state, extensive allies, and large-scale armies with a surprisingly large bronze industry. The graves show massive amounts of social stratification, and the uncovering of oracle bones infers the divination of Shang emperors.
