Slave ownership in Upper & Lower Canada (10 mar 1791 año – 10 ene 1841 año)

Descripción:

"English-speaking Upper Canada, which existed from 1791 to 1841 (in present-day Southern Ontario), was also a slave-holding colon. In fact, 'the best people in the capital [of Upper Canada] owned Negroes' (Riddell 1920: 67). The creation of French-speaking Lower Canada, a small part of the former colony of New France and territorial precursor to present-day Quebec, carried forward the French authorization of slavery, which was practised for fifty years."
