Also known collectively as the Age of Fishes, the Devonian Period is when several major fish lineages evolved. The global climate got warmer and sea levels got higher, sea's surface temperature averaging at 30 Celsius in the tropics. Growth rings of corals proved that at the beginning of the period there were 404 days in a year, averaging out to 396 by the end.
