Red River Rebellion (27 dic 1868 año – 12 mayo 1870 año)

Descripción:

The uprising in the Red River Colony was sparked by the planned transfer of the vast territory of Rupert's Land to the new nation of Canada. The colony of farmers and hunters, many of them Métis, fearing for their culture and land rights under Canadian control, occupied a corner of Rupert's Land.

After a series of successful sieges by the rebels, the Vesperian was willing to negotiate with the Métis leader John Daniels, until a small population of 62 Mormons living in the eastern portion of the Métis occupied Red River Colony were slaughtered in January of 1870.

The local Mormon population around the Assiniboine River, who numbered some 60 thousand individuals were appalled, and as a result, the Vesperian Government refused to give Amnesty to Daniels and the other Rebel leaders.

By march, Daniels and many other rebel leaders fled south to the United States and the Ontario Government made peace with the rebels. While marked as a Vesperian Military victory, the Métis won politically with the creation of the Province of Manitoba.
