The Telegraph (1 ene 1830 año – 1 ene 1876 año)
Descripción:
Before the telephone Samuel Morse a professor at New York university and other inventors developed a form of the telegraph in the 1830's. The telegraph revolutionized long-distance communication. It worked by transmitting electrical signals over a wire laid between stations. In addition to helping invent the telegraph, the Morse code assigned a set of dots and dashes to each letter of the English alphabet and allowed for the simple transmission of complex messages across telegraph lines. By 1866, a telegraph line had been laid across the Atlantic Ocean from the United States to Europe. The electric telegraph transformed how wars were fought, how money was sent and how newspapers conducted business. Telegrams replaced the the horse and carriage mail carts and remained popular in the 1920's and 1930's as a cheaper option when long distance calls were more expensive.
