1854-1809: 3rd Party System (27 mayo 1854 año – 28 nov 1890 año)
Descripción:
During the 3rd Party System, the U.S. political scene was shaped by the contrasting ideologies of the Democrats and Republicans. The Democrats, a conservative party, emphasized states' rights, agrarian interests, and limiting federal intervention, especially in the South. They were generally opposed to Reconstruction and civil rights for freed slaves but were more accepting of immigration and favored a more isolationist foreign policy. In contrast, the Republicans, liberal to moderate in their views, advocated for a strong central government, industrial growth, and civil rights for freed slaves, although their support for civil rights diminished over time. Republicans were pro-business, increasingly supported Prohibition, and favored an expansionist foreign policy. The two parties represented deep divides over race, federal vs. states' rights, and economic priorities.
