Fort Mosé – The First Free Black Community (1 ene 1738 año – 1 ene 1763 año)
Descripción:
In 1738, Fort Mosé was founded near St. Augustine, Florida, as the first free Black settlement in what is now the United States. Formerly enslaved Africans gained freedom by pledging loyalty to Spain.
The community lasted until 1763, when Spain ceded Florida to Britain and residents moved to Cuba.
