Operation Torch was the Allied invasion of French North Africa during World War II. The primary goal of the operation was to to weaken the Axis powers in the region and eventually lead to the surrender of Erwin Rommel's Afrika Korps It was a critical Allied operation aimed at opening a new front in the Mediterranean and relieving pressure on the Soviet Union.
