1964: Barry Goldwater launches his presidential campaign. (1 ene 1964 año – 1 ene 1965 año)

Descripción:

In 1964, Senator Barry Goldwater officially launched his presidential campaign from the steps of the Yavapai County Courthouse in Prescott. This location was chosen by Goldwater because his grandfather had settled in Prescott in 1875, and his uncle, Morris Goldwater, had served as the town's mayor for 26 years. Goldwater appealed to the Western values of “rugged individualism and independence” —values that had been prevalent in Prescott since its colonization. The Yavapai County Courthouse is now a historic landmark in Prescott.

This event brought national attention to the city of Prescott, making it one of the centers of American politics at this time. His campaign marked a significant shift in the Republican Party, emphasizing modern conservative principles that are still very much present throughout Prescott today. Even though he didn’t win the presidency, Prescott now has a lasting place in the larger story of American politics.
