1935: The Yavapai Tribe is given a reservation. (1 ene 1935 año – 1 ene 1935 año)

Descripción:

In 1935, the government granted the Yavapai tribe 75 acres of land for a reservation. They did not do this on their own volition. They had to be asked by a member of the Yavapai tribe, who they were attempting to remove from the last bit of land he had access to. The government eventually granted him that land but still tried to remove it from him later on.

“Sam said, “You see this land here? Indians live here all the time. You send us from here to San Carlos. When they turn us loose from San Carlos, the people went back to where they used to be. So, I cant go no place. I can’t leave. Right here in Prescott is my home. My father’s grandfather’s home. That’s why I stay right here.”"

“All right,” the government man said, “I take you down to the big man’s office.” They go to that office and the man who take care of that big man…Then the big man come out. He is a big man!...Looks like danger for me. Then that big man and the other government man said, “All right, that land you own, we talk about that.”"

“Then he put out a map on a little table. He said, “We are going to fence all that land up for you. Don’t say you got no money. Tell your people to fence it up. So we are going to give you that land. Just go ahead and tell them to build that fence.” So Sam did. "

"The government man tried to move Sam to another place. But Sam, he said “no” to the man. He said, “I can’t do it, I can’t leave.” If Sam don’t say anything, they move him out. But he says, “This is my land.” So he stays in there and he got the land.” -Yavapai Elders: Sam Jack (Homutalva) and Mike Harrison. (Oral History of the Yavapai).
