1877 - 1889 : The Capital is moved back to Prescott then to Phoenix. (1 ene 1877 año – 1 ene 1889 año)
Descripción:
Between 1877 and 1889, Arizona's territorial capital shifted twice due to political competition and changing regional influence. In 1877, lawmakers moved the capital from Tucson back to Prescott. This was mainly because northern leaders wanted more political control and believed Prescott was a better representation of the Arizona Territory than Tucson. Mining interests in Prescott were also a big factor in supporting the move. Prescott served as the capital for two more years, until its remote location and slower growth became more evident.
In 1889, it was clear that Phoenix was growing more rapidly due to irrigation projects and because its location was in a more central part of the territory. This allowed Phoenix to become a much stronger economic and political center than Prescott. Later that year, the legislature voted to move the capital to Phoenix, where it remains today.
