1583: First Recorded European Contact. (1 ene 1583 año – 1 ene 1604 año)

In 1583 the first European contact was made with the Yavapai people by the Spaniard Antonio de Espejo who was searching for gold as well as fulfilling a personal expedition. Espejo was led through the mountain areas by the Hopi tribe, after which he came into contact with the Yavapai tribe. There is not much known about the interaction, although it is widely known as being peaceful. From 1589 - 1604, a few more Spaniards crossed through Yavapai territory to look for gold, but left disappointed after only finding copper. The Yavapai tribe told the remaining explorers to look for gold towards the sea. After these interactions European contact ceased for over 200 years.
