Spawning from territorial disputes regarding the Shatt al-Arab river dating back to 1936, Iran and Iraq take part in armed border clashes. The conflict sees around 1,000 deaths between both sides and ends with the Algiers Agreement.

The dispute will reignite again with the Iran-Iraq War.
