Realism period (1 ene 1848 año – 1 ene 1900 año)
Descripción:
Up until the emergence of what came to be known as Realism, art primarily focused on the subjects of mythology, history, religion, and emotionally charged drama. The mundanity of everyday life was oversought. That is until the movement of Realism.
Artists like Gustave Courbet sought to depict the everyday scenes of normal people. These subjects were not commissioned or dictated by royalty or institution, but rather inspired by the real world as it presented itself.
Some popular movements and styles within Realism include: Photorealism, Hyperrealism, Magic Realism, and Traditional Realism.
Major artists in the Realist art movement include Gustave Courbet, Édouard Manet, Jean-François Millet, Andrew Wyeth, and Rosa Bonheur.
When it comes to realism art, the most popular mediums include oil paints, acrylic paints, graphite pencils, charcoal, colored pencils, and sometimes even pen and ink as they allow for fine detail and precise control, making it possible to capture realistic textures and features in a piece.
