Sicilian expedition (1 ene 415 año aC – 1 ene 413 año aC)
Descripción:
The Sicilian Expedition was a military campaign during the Peloponnesian war where Athens decided to launch a naval and land attack against Sicily in an attempt to control Sicily’s rich resources while weakening Sparta’s allies. However, despite Athen’s initial success, the Sicilians kept up a strong defence with the help of Sparta leading to the destruction of the Athenian fleet. The loss suffered by the Athenians caused the Athen to be severely weakened and marked a turning point in the Peloponnesian War for Sparta and its allies, while also contributing to Athen’s eventual defeat.
