An uprising of Greek colonists in cities in Ionia (modern day Turkey). This was triggered by the tyrant of Miletus, Aristagoras, who after a sabotaged invasion of the island of Naxos, was in a position to lose his tyranny and instead encouraged his citizens to revolt against the Persian Empire.
