Ionian Invasion (1 ene 499 año aC – 1 ene 493 año aC)

An uprising of Greek colonists in cities in Ionia (modern day Turkey). This was triggered by the tyrant of Miletus, Aristagoras, who after a sabotaged invasion of the island of Naxos, was in a position to lose his tyranny and instead encouraged his citizens to revolt against the Persian Empire. This revolt was assisted by Athens and ultimately failed.
