The First Opium War - After the British had been trading opium for tea and silk with China, China placed a ban on opium which led to the war. Britain won and imposed the Treaty of Nanking, which forced China to give them Hong Kong Island and to trade with them. (4 sept 1839 año – 29 agos 1842 año)
