Niels Bohr (1885–1962) (7 oct 1885 año – 18 nov 1962 año)

Descripción:

Niels Bohr was a Danish physicist who is generally regarded as one of the foremost physicists of the 20th century. He adapted Rutherford's nuclear structure to Max Planck's quantum theory and created the Bohr model, the most widely accepted model of the atom. Rutherford had established experimentally that the atom consists of a heavy positively charged nucleus with substantially lighter negatively charged electrons circling around it in an orbit at considerable distance. According to classical physics, such a system would be unstable, and Bohr felt compelled to postulate, in an article published in The Philosophical Magazine in 1913, that electrons could only occupy particular orbits determined by the quantum of action and that electromagnetic radiation from an atom occurred only when an electron jumped to a lower-energy orbit.

Niels Bohr also contributed in building Moseley's periodic table. Moseley’s table was not widely accepted and with his death in WWI, it was not until Bohr's contributions building on Moseley that this was fully accepted and introduced as the long form periodic table. Bohr's contributions added:
- Quantized energy levels
- Electron configuration
- Emission spectra
- Periodic trends
