Descripción:
First of a series of religious wars or crusades, initiated, supported and at times directed by Latin church in the middle ages.
Most of the major events happened after the agreed departure date in August 15th, 1096.
|
The crusades gathered in Constantinople during fall. They captured Nicaea while Kilij Aslan was away. The city surrendered to Alexious and then later killed an army that was sent by Kilij.
Pope Urban II had a plan to reinforce the power of the papacy in an attempt to reunite Christendom by bringing Eastern Christians back and by reconquering the Holy land.
|
He made a speech at the council of clermont in November 1095 to convince people to join the crusade. Pope addressed how urgent it was for the support of the Christians in the middle west and Jerusalem from Muslim control.
The first crusade was a religious campaign launched by European Christians in AD 1905 in order to recapture the holy land from the Muslims.
|
The Christians didn't want the Muslims had hold on the holy land because they saw the Muslims as a threat. To Christians the holy land was associated with birth, ministry, crusification, and ressurection of Jesus.
